Details are here.

The little-known story of the Shadis was a prominent part of the celebration, described by Mayor Greg Lyman in his welcoming remarks. The day was billed as an appreciation of “multiculturalism, tolerance, and diversity in our community” and Lyman opened the program with a moment of silence for victims of the mass shootings in Orlando, Florida the night before. Sundar and Dorothy Shadi raised a family in El Cerrito and became prominent members of the community. Dorothy became a professor at UC Berkeley and well known in the field of Spanish literature.
