I spoke with Alamo resident and Rotary member Mark Kahn, as I’ve done over the years, to get the scoop on this year’s festival. He is excited about the music lineup of the local school jazz bands and choirs, The Dublin Celts, and, rounding out the evening with their dance tunes, the Groove Doctors. Mark has been involved for 31 years and never tires of the festive day, even though the members work long hours to make it memorable. “It has always been great each year, with the live music and seeing families have fun. I enjoy the experience and have a wonderful time each year,” he said. Mark also shared with me that this year they will acknowledge Pat Wickersham, who was instrumental in getting the first Alamo Music Festival off the ground.

Beans pursued her interest in science and research as an undergraduate at Mills College, as a medicinal chemist at a biotechnology company and as a graduate student in the chemistry department at Stanford University. Beans also has studied abroad and traveled extensively. She began taking ballet classes at age 3 and has been dancing ever since. She has studied many forms of dance, from swing to Indian dance of Odissi, and has performed in musical theater productions and modern dance companies.
