Now Flatt enters the season as a fulltime student with 13 credits and a difficult daily commute to rinks in Oakland and San Jose. Her first test is upon her this weekend at Skate Canada in Ontario. She also is scheduled to compete at the Rostelecom Cup on Nov. 25-27 in Moscow. Flatt’s primary focus outside the classroom is the 2012 U.S. Championships in January at HP Pavilion. The competition serves as a qualifier for the World Championships in March in France. These events are stepping stones toward the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where Flatt, by then a Stanford junior, hopes to earn a medal.
